Speech Therapy in the Schools
Speech Therapy jobs in schools are growing rapidly. The perfect setting for a CFY candidate to obtain their internship hours is while being supervised in a school. Speech-Language Pathologists love the rewards that come with working with students, as well as the time off for holidays!
Some of the duties of a school speech-language pathologist include identification, assessment, and treatment of students ages 3-21. The SLP will be responsible for maintaining student records and developing an individualized plan of care tailored to each student's needs. A speech-language pathologist will teach students how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their oral or written languauge skills to communicate more effectively.
In order for one to practice in this field, they must complete a master's degree or higher from an accredited Speech and Communications program. After the degree is obtained, the graduate must apply for the national exam in order to obtain licensure. While studying for the exam, the graduate must complete a nine-month internship under supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist, known as a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
